I created “Blue Pomegranates” after reading “Art and the Bible” by Francis Schaeffer. In Exodus we read,

“On its hem you shall make pomegranates of blue and purple and scarlet yarns, around its hem, with bells of gold between them, a golden bell and a pomegranate, a golden bell and a pomegranate, around the hem of the robe.” ‭‭(Exodus‬ ‭28‬:‭33‬-‭34‬)

In nature, pomegranates are red, but these pomegranates were to be blue, purple, and scarlet.

The implication is that there is freedom for the artist to make something which gets its impetus from nature but can be different from it and it too can be brought into the presence of God. Art does not need to be “photographic.” (And my favorite works often aren’t photographic)

We don’t have to be threatened or be afraid of fantasy and imagination. This is the freedom the artist has in Christ under the leadership of the Holy Spirit. Let’s live in light of this freedom.
