DAY 26: EZEKIEL

“And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.” (Ezekiel 36:26)

Dear Christian,

God has given you a new heart.

Isn’t that wonderful? Contrary to what a lot of people believe, Christianity is not about behavior modification. It is not simply about being “good” or doing “good” things. It is not even about being a good person.

Simply said, Christianity is not about making bad people good, it is about making dead people alive. A heart of stone to a heart of flesh. It is not something we “muster” up or do ourselves, it is what the Lord does in us.

The Lord is actively working today — redeeming, restoring, reconciling, and rebuilding what is lost, broken, and desolate. And this includes our hearts. Because the hard truth is that the answer is not inside us. As much as we try to better ourselves, adopt new techniques, or learn new diets — it is only a matter of time when we let ourselves down or fail.

But not our God. God loved us enough to send us Jesus to live the perfect life we failed to live and to reconcile us to the Father and to promise us a day when all sad things will come untrue. It is not wishful thinking but a promise that is already unfolding. He is the Lord. He has spoken. He will surely do it.

“Thus says the Lord God: On the day that I cleanse you from all your iniquities, I will cause the cities to be inhabited, and the waste places shall be rebuilt. And they will say, ‘This land that was desolate has become like the garden of Eden, and the waste and desolate and ruined cities are now fortified and inhabited.’ Then the nations that are left all around you shall know that I am the Lord; I have rebuilt the ruined places and replanted that which was desolate. I am the Lord; I have spoken, and I will do it.” (Ezekiel 36: 33,35-36)
