DAY 32: JONAH

“I called out to the LORD, out of my distress, and he answered me; out of the belly of Sheol I cried, and you heard my voice.” (Jonah 2:2)

Dear Christian,

The Lord sees you and hears you.

When Jonah fled to the opposite direction to where God was calling Him to, He was thrown off the ship and swallowed by a big fish.

In the belly of the fish, Jonah prays to God. He acknowledges his disobedience and rebellion against God’s command and turns to the Lord knowing that He alone can bring about salvation.

The Lord heard and released Jonah out of the fish.

Maybe this is you today. Running in a complete opposite direction from where the Lord is calling you. Take heart. Fix your eyes on our gracious God. Though we may be tempted to believe that we know better than God does, God’s word says that, “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”

The Lord is infinitely wiser than we are. He may answer our prayers in ways we would not want or expect, but He ultimately knows what is best for us. Though our eyes are just fixated on this present moment, the Lord sees far more than we ever can — and we know that “all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.” (Romans 8:28)
