DAY 11: 1 KINGS
“After the earthquake came a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper.” (1 Kings 19:12)
Dear Christian,
During a time of utter despair and discouragement, Elijah hid in a cave — alone and defeated. God came to him, not by wind, not by earthquake, not by fire, but through a still small voice. Often we think about God speaking through large, dramatic means. But that isn’t always the case. Sometimes His voice can only be heard in gentle quiet moments.
The world that we live in is loud, chaotic, and full of distractions. Sometimes so much so that we’ve become uncomfortable with the quiet. But sometimes the quiet is exactly what we need in order to hear God’s voice. The Lord knows our prayers before we lift them, the Lord knows our circumstances, and the Lord sees our brokenness. The Lord meets us exactly where we are at. We don’t have to come before him clean or spotless. We can come to Him just as we are.
And even when we have no words, the Spirit himself intercedes for us.
"Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.” (Romans 8:26)
Be still and behold Him.
