DAY 36: ZEPHANIAH

“The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.” (Zephaniah 3:17)

Dear Christian,

The Lord is with you and delights in you.

Like an earthly father delights in his child, so does our Father in heaven delight in you. He delights in us, not because we “earned” his favor, not because we worked really hard to be good. He delights in us because He loves us.

While we were unfaithful, He set His steadfast love on us. While we ignored or ran the opposite direction from God, He pursued us as a shepherd pursues the lost sheep. While we cover ourselves in darkness, shame, and guilt, He sent us Jesus to free us from our shame and call us into His marvelous light.

The Lord loves us enough to come down from heaven and walk amongst us. Emmanuel, God with us, is His name. 

“It is he who remembered us in our low estate, 
for his steadfast love endures forever; 
and rescued us from our foes, 
for his steadfast love endures forever; 
he who gives food to all flesh, 
for his steadfast love endures forever. 
Give thanks to the God of heaven, 
for his steadfast love endures forever.”
(Psalm 136:23-26)
