DAY 44: ACTS
“Now the full number of those who believed were of one heart and soul, and no one said that any of the things that belonged to him was his own, but they had everything in common.” (Acts 4:32)
Dear Christian,
We were made to be in community.
The God of the Bible is triune in nature: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Three persons, one God. He existed in community since the beginning of time. And it is in His image that we were created. It is not a surprise then that we are created to be social beings, to love and serve one another.
Nothing has impacted my faith journey more than being in community with fellow believers. Before I was attracted to God, I was attracted to His image bearers — joyful, bold, hospitable, and unwavering in their faith. Before I knew them, they loved me. They welcomed me like family, cooked me meals, and took me out for coffee. It was their genuine hospitality and joy that intrigued me. And it served as a vital catalyst to how I came to know the Lord.
Faith is not meant to be explored on our own. We need one another to remind us of truth when we’re believing a lie, to pray for us when we’re struggling, and to encourage us when we’re walking through hard seasons. In the same way, we also should love and care for one another, bearing one another’s burdens, and building each other up in the Lord.
Because we’re in a fallen world, life together is messy, dysfunctional, and far from perfect — but it is also beautiful, life giving, and incredibly sweet.
Love,
Patsy
