DAY 22: SONG OF SOLOMON
“I found him whom my soul loves.” (Song of Solomon 3:4)
Dear Christian,
What does it mean to find someone whom my soul loves? Is love only something that can be felt or can it be something deeper? Is love really only just a chemical reaction inside our brains?
Love is an emotion that can be felt and also a verb that is acted on. I often think about “Jesus on the cross, looking down at us - denying him and abandoning him and in the greatest act of love in history, he STAYED. He loved us, not because we were lovely to him, but to make us lovely.” (Tim Keller, The Meaning Of Marriage)
I thank God that love is more than just a feeling. Our feelings come and go, and a lot of the times they’re unreliable. But the Lord has set His sure and steadfast love on us in spite of us.
“Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? As it is written, “For your sake we are being killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.” No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8:35-39)
Love,
Patsy
