DAY 42: LUKE
“And I tell you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.” (Luke 11:9)
Dear Christian,
You could summarize all of Jesus’ teaching on prayer in one word: Ask.
And yet, we give up on prayer so quickly. When we don’t immediately receive what we ask for, whether it is a spouse, a house, our dream career or something else, we can easily lose heart.
For we who are faint of heart, Jesus reassures us with these words, “For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. What father among you, if his son asks for a fish, will instead of a fish give him a serpent; or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!” (Luke 11:10-13)
Jesus shows us how to pray and asks God for daily bread. Let us make it a habit to pray and ask for what we need each day, always relying and depending on the Lord. And when we don’t have what we desire? Let us stay persistent in prayer. I think of the parable of the persistent widow, who kept bothering a judge to give her justice until it was given to her. In the same way, Jesus tells us to pray.
And friend, pay attention to what God does. Pray that He would open your eyes to see how He is moving. Because He is — and it will be for your joy and His glory.
Love,
Patsy
